Well, this is new. Excitingly new in fact! Peripeteia Theatre turns 5 years old this October and it's turning out to be a pretty big year for us in many different ways. We're always up for trying new things out. Someone recommended we do a blog so here goes!

We're nearly half way through 2025, and have done so much already but also have a great deal more to do. More about that in the next blog post!

In this blog I want to introduce you to the company and what's going on currently.

Peripeteia Theatre started in 2020 during one of the many lockdowns. We had enough as creatives not being able to be creative. So, I decided to put a call out towards as many theatrical creatives as I could. A Zoom was set up and about 20 odd people turned up. Then basically Peripeteia Theatre was born. It's a name that I love, even if no one knows what it means or how to pronounce it.

For those who don't know Peripeteia comes from a Greek literature term that means a sudden reversal of fortune or change in circumstances. It was worthy of that name at the time, and still is now, as we wanted to change the way theatre engaged its audience during the covid era and ultimately reverse the circumstances we had been dealt by the universe. We still fulfil that to this day by making theatre accessible as we can to it audience. For example, we have the Digital Hub where in which our audiences can watch pre-recorded theatre show, short films, and audio projects totally for free. It's just a click away on our website.

There are now 6 of us at Peripeteia. Running different parts of the company. But coming together with the passion to support creatives and give opportunities to them as well.

Since establishing in 2020 we have now worked on over 100 pieces of new writing by over 70 new writers. And we're not stopping. This year our community outreach programme, The Boiler Room, has the aim of supporting 20 different writers develop their full-length scripts through read throughs. These writers were selected through an open call-out last year in which we received 163 applications.

Currently we've in rehearsals for 22nd project LOVE. Which opens at The Edge Theatre in Chorlton on the 21st and runs until the 25th of May. It's a mammoth of a play all about love, forgiveness, and redemption! Come check it out. Come meet. We love connecting with all kinds of different creatives (we've a very friendly bunch if I do say so myself). Tickets for LOVE can be found on our and The Edge's website or through our Linktree.

In our next blog we've got some huge exciting news to announce and talk about.

But until then thank you for reading this post! Until next time!
